Erykah Badu is full of surprises.  I remember the first time I heard “American Promise” by RAMP and quickly realized that the opening track to the New Amerykah Part One album is just that song with some extra vocals added on top and maybe mixed a little different.  Blew my head.

Then, more recently, I got this album by a lady named Sylvia Striplin, and of of the songs made me do another big Badu double-take.

Sylvia Striplin – You Can’t Turn Me Away

(just in case you don’t know why this is double-take worthy, here’s why)

Erykah Badu – Can’t Turn Me Away (Get MuNNY)

Oh and just so y’all know, this is in no way intended to disparage Erykah Badu or call into question her originality AT ALL, I think it’s awesome that she does stuff like this.  That’s why I’m posting it up.  Nothing but respect.

And of course Mr. Roy Ayers produced both original tracks. Good stuff, thanks for sharing.
