THE PROCESS

I thought you all might be interested in how the covers were made for my Main Character LP that just went on sale this weekend.  I took a few photos while I was doing it to document the progression, so here they are in case you were curious!

First, I laid out all the sleeves and taped them together in a grid (easier said than done, I found out), and then I transferred the whole thing to the garage where I applied the first coat of spray paint.

Those colors will be the colors of the branches in the finished product.  The next step was to tear up thin strips of painter’s tape and apply them on top of this first spray paint layer in the branch pattern you see below.

Once I had that laid out, I gathered a bunch of leaves and twigs from my mom’s yard, set them aside, and applied another coat of spray paint, trying to not spray the same color on top of itself as much as possible to create contrast between the branches and leaves/twigs, which were added immediately after this second coat of paint.  I had to individually stick each leaf down to the paint, and once that was finished I sprayed another coat of paint on top of that, once again trying to not duplicate colors too much on top of each other to create contrast.  I gave that just a few minutes to dry and then I peeled off all the leaves and branches I’d placed on there, and then peeled off all of the tape branch designs I’d made.

Then all I had to do was remove the tape that I used to attach all the sleeves together into one big piece, and what I had left was the cover art for my Main Character LP!

That’s it, all that I had to do was number ’em and attach the track list and they were finished!  Let me know if you want one, I only made 50 so there is a possibility of them being sold out before too long.  $10 for your own unique piece of that big project, oh and there’s some music inside too that you might like.
